It can be confirmed that Yorkshire beaches have been acknowledges as some of the best and cleanest beaches in the world.
Yorkshire has been awarded five Blue Flag awards by anti-litter charity Keep Britain Bang Tidy because of the beaches high standard of cleanliness, safety , environmental management and water quality.
This is great news for tourists traveling to a Yorkshire hotel on the coastline, as they are been treated to some of the best quality beaches in the world, who needs Spain when clean beaches are on your doorstep.
Amongst the clean beaches to be awarded the Blue Flags are Hornsea and Withernsea who have regained their flags from two years ago, as well as Scarborough’s North Bay, Whitby and Filey all retaining their Blue Flag status for another year.
Bridlington were the only major beach to miss out on the coveted awards, not reaching the mark by only a fraction.
In total fifteen beaches received the Quality Coast Awards (QCA’s) for high standards of beach management, including Bridlington North and South, Robin Hoods Bay, Sandsend and Runswick Bay , giving Yorkshire a higher concentration of QCA’s than any other region in the UK.
Although news has genuinely been positive for North Yorkshire’s Beaches, Yorkshire Water has been fined over the release of sewage at Runswick Bay.
It has emerged that Yorkshire water has being fined in excess of £75,000 after it admitted to releasing sewage into the beck at Runswick Bay accidentally.
Since then the water company has taken full responsibility and made vast improvements to their station to make sure it will not happen again.
There was also more damning news for North Yorkshire beaches when it was revealed on Sunday by a big national newspaper that beaches such as Staithes, Robin Hoods Bay and Bridlington South may be unfit to swim by new quality standards coming into force in 2015.
